Kane had a bit of a rough start the first year of his life. Born in South Carolina, at a little over a year old, his owner decided to drop his “buddy” at the local vet. Not because it was time for his yearly checkup, bit because he had become extremely sick. His owner for some reason put him in the backyard and then left him without food or water for a long period. He has been eating what he could find in the yard to survive. At about half his normal weight, he was extremely malnourished and his prospects were not looking good. The vet contacted the owners and explained how grave Kane’s health situation was and that he would need additional treatment. They refused to pay and said they did not want Kane anymore.
Luckily for Kane the story didn’t stop there. The wonderful people at the vet did their best to bring Kane back around. After some time and care Kane started to gain some of his strength back and was released to a foster family.
About this time I was looking on Petfinder for a dog to adopt, specifically an Irish terrier and their was “buddy”. It was love at first sight. There he was in his profile picture standing right next to a large husky and I knew he was the dog for me. A confident dog that gets along with other dogs, he was a perfect fit. We contacted the foster family and told them that we would love to adopt him. and set out from Pennsylvania to South Carolina.
Forward 3 years later and that skinny little dog is now a well fed full grown dog with a new home and family who loves him. Kane’s strong spirit and determination is the inspiration behind the Red Dog Painting name. This is why he stands proudly as our logo.
